Hero Motocorp introduces ‘Battery-As-A-Service model EV ownership

Hero MotoCorp on Wednesday announced the introduction of a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for its VIDA VX2 electric scooter. This initiative aims to lower the initial ownership cost, making electric mobility more affordable and accessible to a broader range of customers.

Set to launch on July 1, 2025, the new “pay-as-you-go” battery subscription model is designed to offer greater flexibility and affordability in owning a VIDA electric vehicle (EV). The BaaS model allows customers to finance the scooter chassis and battery separately, transforming large upfront costs into manageable monthly payments.

By adopting this model, VIDA customers will benefit from enhanced cost-efficiency and gain access to the brand’s extensive nationwide network, which includes more than 3,600 fast-charging stations and over 500 service points across 100+ cities.

“VIDA is breaking conventional barriers and reimagining EV ownership to democratize electric mobility, offering consumers unmatched convenience, flexibility, and peace of mind,” the company stated.

Hero MotoCorp also confirmed that consumers will be able to choose from a variety of flexible subscription plans tailored to their daily or monthly usage needs and budgets, further enhancing the affordability and practicality of electric scooter ownership.

Earlier, during the IPL season in May, VIDA launched its ‘Charging Simple Hai’ campaign, showcasing the ease of charging with its removable battery technology. The campaign emphasized the convenience of using any standard 5-amp socket with the slogan “Every plug point is a VIDA charging point,” reinforcing VIDA’s commitment to accessible and hassle-free electric mobility.

VIDA, the electric mobility arm of Hero MotoCorp, continues to see positive growth, with 8,361 units dispatched and 7,161 VAHAN registrations for its VIDA V2 electric scooter range. With a 7.2% market share on the VAHAN platform, VIDA is steadily expanding its presence. The brand is also gearing up for the launch of a new product on July 1, 2025.
